The three step diagnostic criteria for prostatic cancer (PC (I): Cancer not ruled out, PC (II): Suspicion of cancer, PC (III): Cancer) was evaluated from the result of 63 cases of prostatic cancer detected by transrectal ultrasonotomography.
Stage B was found in 14 cases (22.2%) of them. Twelve (85.7%) of stage B cancer were ultrasonically diagnosed as PC (I). The mean value of prostatic weight with cancer diagnosed as PC (I) was 28.3±9.3 g which was smaller than those diagnosed as PC (II) (32.8±5.8 g) and PC (III) (35.3±10.0 g). It was emphasized that the category of PC (I) was particularly important for detecting early prostatic cancer.
