We evaluated sonodynamic chemotherapy with porfimer sodium (Photofrin; Pf) on blood tumor cells in order to compare cell-killing effects among adult T cell leukemia MT-2 cell lines: normal peripheral mononuclear cells (PMNCs) and PMNCs from ATL patients. Cells were exposed to 450-KHz ultrasound at an intensity of 0.3 W/cm2. Survival rates of MT-2 cells exposed to ultrasound for 80 seconds were 59.8±8.0%, whereas survival in ultrasound combined with 50 and 100 μg/ml of Pf was 37.8±8.2% and 20.5±9.0%, respectively.
